The recently-appointed SCA secretary general Mostafa Amin has decided to review archaeological restoration projects in Egypt. Can he restore the Supreme Council of Antiquities itself?

Abdel-Fattah al-Banna was appointed Egyptian Antiquities Chief in July but quit shortly after taking the post because he thought he looked funny in the "Indiana Jones" style hat. Council secretary Abdel-Maksowd has taken his place but, according to our sources, he looks funny in the hat also.

Zahi Hawass has been fired from his post as Egyptian Antiquities Minister. Maybe now we can finally put away the waders and get serious about archaeology in Egypt.

Egypt's Antiquities Minister, Zahi Hawass, was cleared by an appeals court of corruption charges, sparing the international face of Egyptian archaeology from a year in prison. See - http://english.ahram.org.eg/~/NewsContent/9/40/14365/Heritage/Ancient-Egypt/Court-ruling-acquits-Hawass--.aspx
Zahi is wrapping up a 10-day tour of the United States to promote tourism to Egypt. He will reassure audiences that Egypt is a safe country to visit, and that popular sites are ready and eager to receive tourists. Remember when Hawass reassured us that Egyptian antiquities were safe from looters?

Egyptian Minister of State for Antiquities Affairs Zahi Hawass has been sentenced to a year in jail and a hefty fine for failing to fulfill a court ruling over a land dispute. He has also been relieved of his duties as Minister of State for Antiquities Affairs. Perhaps this will be a time of reflection for him where he will emerge a stronger person, both physically and spiritually. I'm sure that we haven't heard the end of this story yet.

Zahi Hawass has returned as State Minister for Egyptian Antiquities. While away from his post, the opportunity arose for him to try on the pharoah's shoes. A Cinderella Story this is not, so when Mr. Hawass was asked to return as Minister of Antiquities, he jumped at the chance. He said that he had come into his old position at a very critical time, but that the most important thing about it is that for the second time in history, Egypt has a Minister of Antiquities.

Earthquakes are not a result of disobedience, but a sign of the end of the age. God's method of punishing the nation of Israel allows us to see how God works among men. His method of punishment for their disobedience is clearly seen in Deuteronomy 28:15, "But it shall come to pass, if thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of the Lord thy God, to observe to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command thee this day; that all these curses shall come upon thee, and overtake thee..." . The numerous curses continue on through verse 68 without a single mention of an earthquake! Earthquakes are reserved for a sign of the coming of Jesus and that this current age is coming to an end. His desciples said in Matthew 24:3, "...Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?" Jesus answered in verse 7 by saying, "For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places."
In this present age we can rejoice in the freedom that we have from the law. Galatians 3:13, "Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us ... ." Earthquakes are more frequent and more powerful than ever. The end of the age is near and, for those of us who look forward to being with our Lord and Saviour, this is another reason to rejoice.
"For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord." (I Thessalonians 4:16,17)

Zahi Hawass has just resigned as State Minister for Egyptian Antiquities. Reached by telephone, Mr. Hawass said he was happy that he had made the "right decision" and lashed out at colleagues who have criticized him. We, here at Biblical Archaeology Truth, apologize for our part in his decision to resign and take full responsibility for the journalistic carelessness that may have led to the early end of a stellar dictatorship. In our previous blog we may have overstated the facts regarding Mr. Hawass and his ability to self promote. Maybe he could have accomplished great things for Egypt, he may have gone on to be the Egyptian president, or maybe he would have been chosen to lead the world out of the mess that it is in. Maybe it's not too late. Will Zahi Hawass yet wear the Pharaoh's shoes?
